| Abstract |
| Using large format holography as a medium to examine issues of self-identity, “the Good Medicine Cabinet” explores mankind’s reflective nature. The art work is a mixed-media piece consisting of a bathroom cabinet which incorporates a 30x40cm rainbow transmission hologram. The piece combines holographic images with text to reach toward the meaning that exists at the boundaries between words and images, and between artist and viewer. The work was produced at the Center for Holographic Arts in New York, USA, during an artist’s residency and was exhibited in 2009 at the Museum of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. The exploration of self-identity also underpins creative work produced with local school children during recent art/science educational projects. This paper reports on the creation of “The Good Medicine Cabinet” and explores the relationship between the artist’s own fine art practice and related art education projects in the UK. |
