The first International Symposium on Display Holography (ISDH) was founded by Professor Tung H. Jeong in 1982 at Lake Forest College in Illinois, USA.
ISDH is a unique event. It is not like any other scientific conference. Rather, it is one that synthesizes history, education, art, science, and economic developments that involves holography.
ISDH requires a unique set of conditions for its operation. Among these conditions are: (a) it must not be held inside a large city, but in a beautiful tranquil rural setting like Lake Forest , and near an international airport. (b) By avoiding the distractions of a large city, more social interactions will occur among participants after the formal session of paper presentations. (c) There will be a formal introduction of each participant to each other; a formal opening of an art exhibition; a banquet; among other social activities. (d) There will be no parallel sessions. (e) A unique purpose of ISDH, beside the obvious exchange of information on display holography, is to engender a sense of community among participants. After the initial attendance of an ISDH, one looks forward to all the future “family reunions.”
In the past ISDH's, we have had Emmett Leith and Yuri Denisyuk as Honorary Chairmen. For ISDH-China,
we are most fortunate to have as our Honorary Chairman Dr. Joseph W. Goodman, Professor Emeritus of Stanford University . For his most impressive accomplishments, please visit: http://www-ee.stanford.edu/~goodman/. His classic work "Introduction to Fourier Optics," first published in 1968 and now in its third edition, is the textbook studied by all serious students of holography the world over. |
